This month marked the anniversary of my reconnecting with Nana Kwaku after 27 years. He was the impetus and the knowledge behind my change to becoming vegan. Last week I did a Facebook Live about what I’ve learned about being vegan since I made the transition 10 years ago. Today’s post shares that live stream.
I’ve been doing more live streaming on social media lately. I made almond milk on Instagram Live a few weeks ago. I plan to do a lot more. My goal is to be live on Facebook once a week. I’ll be sharing tips, recipes, and answering questions. This next Facebook Live will be a suggested topic, how to make the transition to being vegan when your family is still eating meat. Join me live so you can ask questions and join the conversation via the chat box.
Anyway, look for me on our Facebook page sometime on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, either in the late evening or early to mid morning. I’ll be playing around with the time to figure out what time works best for you all and still works for the significant time differences. We are GMT+3 here in Tanzania which means right now it’s 7 later than EST. To make sure you get notified of when I’m going live, make sure you “like” and or follow the page.
So here is this past weeks stream. Please excuse the video quality. See below for the highlights.
Here, in summary are the 10 things I’ve learned from 10 years of being vegan
- Eating vegan can bring more variety to your diet. I’ve learned how to be a better cook and discovered many new foods and recipes since going vegan. I enjoy my food even more now!
- There are vegans everywhere. Even black vegans. In fact here’s a video I did a couple of years ago about that.
- You can eat vegan almost anywhere with a bit of advance planning.
- Your emotions are important to understand. They can be the undoing of even the most committed vegan.
- Vegangelism isn’t cool. Don’t be the vegan police.
- Losing weight doesn’t have to be hard. Removing the animal products goes a long way toward removing what makes people overweight. There’s more you can do, but most people see a drop in weight when they become vegan.
- You don’t have to eat tofu or “fake meat.” It’s not necessary if you don’t like it. We hardly use it at all.
- You NEVER have to worry about protein. Here’s the truth about that.
- I don’t need to wear deodorant (or most other products). My body stopped smelling when I removed the animal products.
- Sickness doesn’t have to be a part of getting older. Now at age 60, the issues I struggled with or was worried about 10 years ago are no longer of concern to me.
So that’s the 10 things I’ve learned.
