Why is Community important for wellness? What do we need to do to bring more of it back into our lives? I have been having many great conversations with watu (people) here about their thoughts on these questions. Many can’t believe how much folks in the USA are on their own. It’s time for Sankofa! Time to return to the ways community was (and is) central to our lives.
Sankofa is reaching back to the past to pick up what we left behind. In this video I explore what I’ve learned from living here in Tanzania for the past five years about how and why community is an important aspect for creating healthy Afrikan people. I also share three reasons why community is important.
I recorded this video while visiting The Akeri Library which is part of the Community Education Resource Foundation founded by Godfrey Jackson. I share a bit about the work he is doing and how he is helping to strengthen his own community near Arusha Tanzania. I’ll be putting together a video that shows in much more depth what CERFO is all about to help them tell their story. If you are interested in finding out more about what they are doing and how you can help, you can connect with Godfrey via Facebook at CERFO on Facebook Or contact me via my contact page and I will connect you with him. https://foodforthesoul.me/contact-us/
Now I want to hear from YOU! What do you think? How connected are you to your community, be it family, neighbors, friends or colleagues? What can you do to strengthen your community connections? Especially during this time where social distancing is being promoted?
