Have you been struggling with making a transition to a vegan diet and lifestyle? Whether you are making the change to reverse disease, to prevent disease, for weight loss, or for spiritual or other reasons, a juice fast or a fruit fast is a great way to jumpstart your transition to plant-based and improve your chances of being successful. It’s one step in my four step recommendation for making a lasting and life-long change to your diet and lifestyle.
I follow a four step process to assist my clients and patients in making a lasting and life-long change to their diet and lifestyle.
Step one is getting clear on where you want to go and why. Knowing the destination is crucial to mapping the path to get there. And knowing why it’s important to you will help keep you on target when temptation strikes.
Step two is cleansing/detoxing and pushing reset with a juice fast or a Fruit Fast. Proper fasting is safe and effective way to prepare your body and mind for your new lifestyle.
Step three is really getting to know yourself, what triggers your cravings, where you struggle, and what you believe to be true about yourself and your situation. This is where the gold is and will give you the knowledge you need for step four.
Step four is creating a plan for your success. Now that you know what and where your struggles as well as what your strengths are, you can begin to craft strategies specifically designed to fit your situation and needs.
Once you’ve gone through and know the process for each the four steps you’ll have the tools to stay true to your commitment to living a healthier lifestyle. I regularly use each of these steps because this is a life-long journey. There are always growing edges. There are times of struggle. But having this process firmly established means you’ve always got a way to get back on track and a way to move forward.
Today I’m focusing on step two, Fasting.
Fasting has been practiced for thousands of years for spiritual and healing purposes. Please note that if you are on medication or are being treated for a medical condition is it vital that you seek advice from a medical practitioner who is familiar with juice fasting. Why should you do a juice fast when you want to make a diet or lifestyle change?
There are four compelling reasons.
Reason 1 – We are all addicts. We are addicted to sugar, fat, salt, chocolate, bread, – Something. What are you addicted to? During your fast you have a chance to break your addictive patterns.
Reason 2 – Clearing your palate. You are used to eating a certain way. While you are consuming fresh juices your tastes will become more accustomed and appreciative of these healthier foods. During your fast your tastes and palate have a chance to reset as well.
Reason 3 – Self reflection. During your Fast it is your opportunity to pause and reflect on your life and yourself. Your cravings and habits will become much more obvious so you’ll be able to see what’s going on. During your fast you’ll be able to observe yourself in a new way.
Reason 4 – It’s a fast way to see real change. You will FEEL much better, have more energy, less pain, fewer symptoms, often within a week. And you’ll be able to shed some of those unwanted pounds quickly too. You’ll be super charging your body with the best nutrition you’ve probably had and it will thank you by going into a healing overdrive. During your fast, if you stick to it for more than just a couple of days, you’ll see remarkable changes in yourself.
These four reasons will give you a jumpstart on making the permanent change you’ve been wanting. This is why often I encourage my Coaching Clients to do a Fruit Fast or the Optimum Fast as a part of their healing journey. It can make a lasting difference.
