This week I’ve been sick. I have a cold. It’s pretty much had me down for the count for three days. I’m still recovering. But I eat vegan! Why am I sick? Is eating vegan enough to be healthy?
No it is not.
I don’t get sick often. I have had much less problems with colds and flu since going vegan in 2007. So what happened this time? I ignored one of the other rules for optimal health. I neglected to get the rest I need. I pushed myself too hard to finish some important projects. I didn’t sleep well, stressing out about getting it all done.
And now look at me. I missed 3+ days of taking care of business.
Those who attend our Pamoja! group coaching sessions know this is a recurring issue for me. I’m a go-go-go kind of person. Chillaxing for me is often watching videos on video editing or some such thing that is really more work! This week is another wake up call that I need to take heed and follow what Nana Kwaku outlines in his book the Rule Book And User Guide For Healthy Living.
When you are striving for creating optimal health, for creating a healthy lifestyle, it’s an ongoing process. A process of paying attention to what your body is telling you and making adjustments. It’s a vital part of #ThrivingWhileVegan.
What adjustments am I making? I’m going to do my best to stop and rest in the afternoon. I’m going to be ok with good enough rather than perfection. I’m going to find ways I can say no or move things off my plate. I’m going to set priorities so that I spend my time on what’s most important.
How about you? What is your body telling you? Are there adjustments you should make to take the next step to Optimal Health? I’d love to hear about it. Leave a comment below.
