Raw Energy Book Review

Raw Energy Book Review

Finding snack food on a raw or live food diet can be both very easy and at times hard. The easiest snack to grab is a piece of fruit or a handful of nuts or seeds. If you are looking for something more take a look at the book Raw Energy by Stephanie Tourles. The subtitle says it all: 124 Raw Food Recipes for Energy Bars, Smoothies, and Other Snacks to Supercharge Your Body.

The book is beautiful with color photos on every page. However I was disappointed that the photos were NOT of the dishes but instead only art shots of some of the ingredients. I really wanted to see what the energy bars looked like.

The first third of the book was all about why to eat raw, what ingredients you need and a discussion about snacking. This will be especially helpful for the new raw foodist. Following that there are sections for nut milks, smoothies, shakes and ice creams; fruit and veggie juices; energy bars and balls; nut, seed and fruit blends; cereals and parfaits; chips, dips and spreads; cold fruit and veggie soups; and candy and cookies.

The recipes look to be easy, delicious and well worth trying. Some are very basic and would be great for the absolute beginner.

I haven’t tried many yet. The ice cream recipe I posted a few weeks back was adapted from this book. Today I made the onion dip shown in the photo above. It was delicious! It was good as a dip for veggies. It was good with my kamut bread. Stay tuned for the recipe.

I haven’t made more recipes yet only because I don’t have any raw oats. Once I do I plan to try one of the raw oatmeal recipes and some of the energy bars.

All in all I think Raw Energy is a great recipe book to add to your collection.
