Black Vegan – Jasmine C Leyva

I haven’t done an interview in quite some time and it’s time to get back to it! In this edition I talk to Jasmine C. Leyva who it the creator of a new documentary film called The Invisible Vegan which is due out early 2018. We met Jasmine in 2015 when she came to Atlanta to interview us and other notable Black vegans for her film.

The trailer descriptions says, “The Invisible Vegan is a 90-minute independent documentary that explores the problem of unhealthy dietary patterns in the African-American community, foregrounding the health and wellness possibilities enabled by plant-based vegan diets and lifestyle choices. The film was inspired when Jasmine noticed that the Black vegan experience was not reflected in movies such as Food Inc., Forks Over Knives, and the many other plant-based nutrition and health movies that have been coming out lately. She decided as a producer and film make it was up to her to tell our story.”

Here is her story.

Here is the trailer of The Invisible Vegan. (You can hear Nana Kwaku’s voice in the beginning saying “Let food by thy medicine … ”

For more information about the work Jasmine is doing go to http://theinvisiblevegan.com or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/theinvisiblevegan/.

Keep an eye out for news about this very important project. Let’s support her project in what ever way we can!
