One of my perpetual struggles is taking on many projects and then feeling over extended and overwhelmed. I’ll decide to do one little thing. Then another little thing is interesting, and so on until all of a sudden I’m carrying too much! My life gets CRAZY! It’s hard to stick to my healthy lifestyle. Here’s how to handle those crazy, over busy, stressed out times.
I’ve gotten much better at creating boundaries and prioritizing self care, thankfully. But, I’ve been in that place more times than I can tell you in the past. It’s often been mostly things I want to do, even enjoy doing, but when all added together I ended up feeling stressed out. When this happened it was easy to fall off the wagon of taking proper care of myself. My yoga practice got sacrificed. I was too tired to make a healthier meal.
These six tactics can help you be prepared for the next time your life gets overwhelming or help you get back on track after a slip up.
First is some Spirit Food to help you connect to your inner power and stop your self sabotaging behaviors.
Clarify Your Why – Take time to visualize why you are committed to living a healthy plant-based lifestyle. How will it impact your life? Your relationships? Your work? Etc.? When you know how important this is to living your life on purpose it’s easier to make healthier decisions.
Practice Self Love – Do you feel bad about yourself and your choices? If so it can be hard to take good care of yourself. We all do things we wish we hadn’t done from time to time. By accepting what has happened, forgiving yourself and wrapping yourself in the self love you deserve, you can release the guilt and helplessness and find the grace and room to start again and continue on.
Now we need some Mind Food to gather the skills and tools for your success.
Quick and Easy Actions – Rather than abandon your healthy lifestyle options when you get overwhelmed, plan ahead by taking time now to look for quick and easy recipes, spiritual practices, and other actions you can pull out and use when you need to create some easy and space in your life.
Satisfying and Nurturing Yourself – While you are planning ahead, also identify the health foods, people, practices that you find nurturing, comforting, soothing. Then, when life is stressing you out you’ll have some ideas of what you can do to help you release the tension and be more centered.
Lastly some Power Food to help you make the right decisions when you are tempted to veer off track.
Turn Mistakes Into Lessons – Mistakes will happen from time to time. If you take these times and look for what made them happen, you can explore what you can do differently so that you’ll be prepared to make a better choice the next time a similar situation happens.
Plan Ahead – When you know you are likely to be extra busy or overwhelmed, look for ways you can get extra support or clear some space on your plate to prevent overload and give yourself some breathing space.

Easily saying yes to projects and tasks that I have to overcommit myself to complete. Thinking that saying yes all the time will make me happy, more personable and feeling a sense of achievement.
Staying on track is easier said than done. Meal prep, going home versus the drive thru, telling myself that I’ll feel terrible later if I don’t eat well now.
Tiera I totally relate! The do more culture is my downfall.
