My friend and raw food buddy Safi and I were talking the other day about how Matt Amsden’s recipe book Rawvolution is one of our favorites. His recipes have good flavor and don’t require much tinkering. There are versions of a number of those recipes here such as the Onion Bread and the Eggless Egg Salad. Matt has a restaurant in LA and in NYC.
I just got my copy of his newest book, The Rawvolution Continues. My first impression was that these recipes are not as easy as in his other book. But I chose a couple to try. The first one, the Sea Cakes uses seaweed and almond pulp to create a dehydrated patty.
This recipe did require a number of steps the first of which was to make almond milk so that I could have the almond pulp. His almond milk recipe calls for young coconut water. As a result I had coconut meat and almond milk left over to use. So I tried two other recipes, the Hot Chocolate and the Cocophoria Sandwich. I ended up spending a good hour in the kitchen but ended up with entrees for three dinners and hot chocolate for several days.
I was very impressed with all the recipes I tried. Nana Kwaku loved the Sandwiches so much he was still talking about them the next day and asked when we could have them again. There are a number of interesting looking bread recipes and soup recipes I am looking forward to trying.
